Canisius women's hoops face Marist on Kids Day

The Canisius women’s basketball team continues its busy week as the squad hosts Marist at 11 a.m. Thursday for the 18th annual Kids Day.

Thursday will be the 47th meeting all-time between the Red Foxes and Griffs. Marist has been at the pinnacle of the MAAC for a majority of its time in the conference and holds a 32-14 lead over Canisius. Canisius has had better success on the road against the Red Foxes having won six games all-time in Poughkeepsie, and dropping 13. Canisius has won five games at home all-time against Marist, having gone 5-15 at the Koessler Athletic Center. Canisius tallied snapped a 13 game losing skid against the Red Foxes on Valentines day last season, beating Marist 71-68. Zeh is looking to start a new tradition of success against Marist, as he is 4-23 since taking over the program, won his last home game aginst the Red Foxes.

This is the 18th annual Kid’s Day for the Canisius College women’s basketball team, and the largest in the MAAC, as the event has hosted over 2,200 kids for the eight-straight seasons. Canisius has fed off the energy that 2,200 kids can provide as the squad has gone 9-3 in the previous 12 kids days. The Canisius women’s basketball team has a number of exciting finishes in recent years on Kid’s Day games in the Koessler Athletic Center. Last season, the Blue and Gold defeated Saint Peter’s 54-42. Crystal Porter’s 12 points led the way to the victory for Canisius. Lauren D'Hont neared double-figures with nine points and five assists. Canisius trailed 58-52 with two and a half minutes left against Siena in 2012-13, before scoring nine-straight points to take the lead and eventually setting the stage for the half-court buzzer beater from freshman Tiahana Mills. In 2011-12, Canisius rallied from a 12-point deficit with just over seven minutes remaining and defeated Iona 85-74 in overtime. Allison Braun drained a jumper with five seconds remaining to force overtime. In 2009-10, Canisius rallied from a seven-point deficit with 40 seconds left in overtime and defeated Manhattan 69-65 in double overtime. In 2007-08, Canisius scored eight points in the final 75 seconds to rally from a seven-point deficit and defeat Fairfield 58-57. Ellie Radke completed a three-point play with 3.7 seconds remaining to complete the comeback.
