Barack Obama. Liberals loved him. Conservatives hated him. And Buffalo author Matt Margolis calls him the worst president in history. He feels so strongly about it, he co-wrote a book saying it's so.
"The Worst President in History: The Legacy of Barack Obama" was published in July and became an Amazon best seller. Earlier this week, the audio book was released, narrated by Mike Chamberlain.
"I know a lot of people feel like I'm being provocative with my title ... but it's definitely based on a serious assessment," Margolis said in an interview earlier this week.
That assessment, he says, is based on 200 things he says the former president did wrong -- each cited in the book.
Of course, the list includes the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare, his handling of the economy and foreign policy. Margolis also said Obama's motivations are part of the equation.
"Was he actually trying to be helpful to the U.S.," Margolis asked, rhetorically -- suggesting he was not. "Or was he trying to undermine the US? The one thing that separates Obama from everyone else is his motivations."
Margolis notes that being anti-Obama does not necessarily make one pro-Trump.
"I was never really a huge fan of Trump," he said, but voted for him as a means of voting against Hillary Clinton. That said, he remains skeptical. "I think that myself and many of the other Republicans that voted for him are not giving him the free pass that Democrats did with Obama."
Still, he hopes the nation will unify under President Trump. "I hope that with the passage of time, people will calm down and we might actually both sides come together."
"The Worst President in History: The Legacy of Barack Obama" by Matt Margolis and Mark Noonan is available on Amazon in paperback, Kindle or audio format.
"I think it's an important read," Margolis said.
