Junior Erica Evans has been selected as the NCAA Player of the Week, the Association announced Wednesday afternoon.
The Peterborough, Ontario native also set several career milestones with her strong play. In a 25-11 win over Siena last Wednesday, Evans became the Canisius career goals leader, passing former Griffs Megan Oosting and Tori Quinn with her 155th career tally.
In the Blue and Gold’s 18-3 against Monmouth on Saturday, the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year became the fifth Golden Griffin to reach the 200 point mark, and the first to accomplish the feat as a junior. Evans totaled six points in the victory over the Hawks, tying her for second on the Canisius career points list with Carly Quinn at 203.
Evans’ numbers stack up well against the rest of the NCAA this season, as she has the sixth most goals (49) and 10th most points (65) in the nation, while having the fifth highest goals per game (3.77) and 10th highest points per game (5.00) totals.
Evans also ranks in the top-25 nationally in several categories, placing 11th in ground balls per game (3.46), 14th in shots on goal per game, 19th in shots per game and 21st in caused turnovers per game (2.15).
The two-time MAAC Midfielder of the Year will look to continue her strong play this afternoon, when the Golden Griffins take on Marist at 4 p.m. from Poughkeepsie.
