Castro got the Griffs’ offense rolling in the first game, as she helped put the Blue and Gold up 2-0 in the first with a two-run home run that also pushed teammate Lindsey Silfer across the plate. The Stags answered with three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-2 lead, but a three-run third inning for Canisius, which featured an RBI-double by Castro, allowed Canisius to regain the lead at 5-3. In that third inning, junior Moriah Harris and freshman Ashley Bernett were also credited with sacrifice-flies.
Castro earned her third win of the season in the circle after she threw 5.2 innings where she allowed four runs on five hits to go with two strikeouts and four walk. Junior Madi Weathers earned her MAAC-leading fourth save of the season after she threw a scoreless 1.1 innings in relief where she fanned two.
The Griffs banged out 10 hits in the game one victory, with Barnett earning a multi-hit game with two singles. Freshmen Morgan Altman and Cassie Ho also had doubles in the winning cause for the Griffs.
In the second game, Fairfield’s Karisa Hughen went the distance and allowed just four hits to go with two strikeouts as the Stags defeated Canisius 4-0. Altman, Ho, Barnett and sophomore Denver Keller all had singles in the loss for the Blue and Gold, the first shutout loss for the team since March 18 at FGCU.
Canisius will play host to Manhattan on Saturday for a MAAC doubleheader. Game one is set to start at noon at the Demske Sports Complex.
