UB men’s tennis sweeps MAC weekly awards

BUFFALO -- After clinching the Mid-American Conference Regular Season title on Sunday, the University at Buffalo men's tennis team swept the final conference weekly awards on Wednesday afternoon.  Junior Vidit Vaghela was named the MAC Singles Player of the Week, while sophomore Ethan Nittolo and senior Tony Miller were named the Doubles Team of the Week.

Vaghela went a perfect 3-0 this past weekend at second singles as the Bulls capped off a perfect regular season and clinched a MAC Regular Season title. He clinched the match on Wednesday at Binghamton with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory and then he followed that up with a 6-3, 5-7, 10-1 win on Friday against Ball State.  Vaghela then saved his best win for last as he clinched the match on Sunday against Northern Illinois at second singles as he overcame a first set loss to Bor Schweiger Muzar to come back and win 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, clinching the match and the title.

Miller and Nittolo continued to roll in doubles as they picked up three more victories this past week.  They opened the week with a 6-4 win against Binghamton to help clinch the doubles point and then the pair clinched the point for Buffalo against Ball State with a 6-3 win at third doubles.  On Senior Day, Miller, who is Buffalo's lone senior, joined Nittolo for a 6-2 win.  The duo is now 12-5 at third doubles.

The Bulls are preparing for the Mid-American Conference Tournament, which begins on Friday morning.  Buffalo is the #1 seed in the tournament and they will face #4 Northern Illinois in the semifinals on Friday at 10am in Kalamazoo, Mich.
