BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The University at Buffalo softball team dropped its series opener at Bowling Green on Friday, falling 1-0 in eight innings on a UB fielding error.

The two teams were scoreless over the first seven innings of action as junior Charlotte Miller pitched another outstanding game for the Bulls.  UB put runners on second in both the first and fourth innings, but couldn't score.

The game sailed into extra frames where the Falcons opened the eighth inning with a long double and they put two in scoring position with just one out when a ground ball that was unable to be fielded by the Bulls drove in the winning run.

Miller picked up the loss as she scattered eight hits and allowed just the one unearned run, while striking out four.  The Bulls were outhit in the game 8-4 as Buffalo got hits from the freshmen quartet of Jessica Goldyn, Jenelle Martinez, Karlie Fernandez, and Ufuoma Ogagan.

"Charlotte had another amazing outing on the mound and our defense was relentless until the last play," said head coach Trena Peel.  "I'm constantly preaching that we have to play error-free defense.  On the other hand, we have to step up offensively.  Coming into this game we had 246 runners left on base in 40 games.  That's what we have to change.  We can hit, we just have to hit with runners in scoring position."

The Bulls and Falcons will conclude their series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00pm.
