AMITY -- A 26-year-old Amity man is dead following an incident involving a backhoe and a power line on Ingraham Road.

According to New York State Police, Troopers responded to a report of a possible electrocution at 4800B Ingraham Road around 10:08 p.m. Wednesday. Investigation revealed that a backhoe had struck an overhead utility line, causing a utility pole to break and descend.  The primary distribution line subsequently fell on Derek Roeske, who had been standing nearby, assisting the backhoe operator.  Amity ambulance responded to the scene and transported Roeske to Jones Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
