Buff State women's lacrosse season ends in SUNYAC Quarters at Geneseo

GENESEO -- Third-seeded Geneseo took an early 7-1 lead and never looked back en route to a 20-6 victory over visiting No. 6 Buffalo State today in a SUNYAC quarterfinal matchup.

Christina Krowel (Amsterdam/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) led the Bengals with three goals, while Jackie Dufresne (Lake View/Frontier) added a goal and two assists. Nina Schaefer (Lafayette/Lafayette) and Johna Kjerstad (Baldwinsville/CW Baker) added one goal apiece for the Bengals. The Knights scored a pair of goals 38 seconds apart early in the game to take a 2-0 lead.
Dufresne cut the lead in half for Buffalo State, but Geneseo went on a 6-0 run from there. Krowel scored three times, including her 43rd of the year to help close the gap to 9-4, but the Bengals would not come any closer. The Knights netted the final two goals of the first half to lead 11-4 at the intermission, and continued that run with the first eight goals of the second half to pull away.
Geneseo controlled the ball for much of the game, outshooting the Bengals 35-12, with a 16-12 edge in draw controls. The Knights were perfect on transition, going 9 for 9 on clear attempts, while Buffalo State finished 5 for 10. Elyse Stark (Lido Beach/Long Beach) made four saves while allowing 11 goals in the first half, and Megan Doyle (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) made one stop with nine goals against in the second half.

Buffalo State was playing without the SUNYAC's leading scorer Alanna Herne (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) who was sidelined with an injury.
