Wings blanked by Pigs, 9-0

Lehigh Valley scored at least one run in every inning except the 5th and 8th as the IronPigs cruised to a 9-0 win over the Rochester Red Wings Monday night at Coca-Cola Park.

The Red Wings (14-12) tied a season high by committing four errors. Rochester managed just five hits, all singles, with Matt Hague finishing 2-for-4.

The IronPigs (17-13) struck early and often against Wings starter Aaron Slegers (2-3). Slegers, pitching for the first time in nine days, allowed two runs in the 1st and single runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th and Lehigh Valley led 5-0.

Slegers surrendered the five runs on seven hits, including a solo home run to Ty Kelly, and a walk with two strikeouts.

IronPigs starter Tom Eshelman made his Triple-A debut and yielded just four hits and a walk with six strikeouts over eight innings while throwing 64 of 87 pitches for strikes.

Alan Busenitz (5th) and Nik Turley (8th) both fired scoreless frames with a pair of strikeouts for the Red Wings. Jason Wheeler made his first regular season relief appearance for Rochester, allowing a run in the 6th and three unearned runs in the 7th.

Rochester never got a runner to third base and only had two runners on base in two innings: the 2nd and 3rd. Twelve Wings hitters were set down in order after a one-out walk to Daniel Palka in the 4th.
