Wings drop 1-0 pitcher's duel to IronPigs

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs won their 10th straight game, beating the Rochester Red Wings 1-0 Monday night at Frontier Field. The series continues Tuesday at 7:05 p.m., another Fan 4-Pack Night at the ballpark.
Kyle Gibson got the start for the Red Wings, and looked impressive early. He struck out six batters and allowed only two base runners in the first three innings. IronPigs starter Aaron Nola, making his second MLB rehab start, also started out of the gate well. In three innings, he struck out four and didn't allow a base runner to advance past first.
Lehigh Valley scored first in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by J.P. Crawford. The IronPigs continued to threaten in the inning, advancing runners to second and third with two outs, but Gibson worked out of danger by getting Taylor Featherston to ground out to second.
After giving up two hits and a walk to load the bases with one out in the fifth inning, Gibson kept his composure and struck out two IronPigs hitters in a row to keep the Red Wings' deficit to one.
Through six innings, a single by Zack Granite was the only Wings hit against Nola.
Gibson had struck out 10 batters through six innings, tying a career high. Gibson gave up one earned run on six hits and four walks, throwing 104 pitches - 64 for strikes. Kevin Chapman replaced Gibson with one out in the seventh.
Nola also went 6.1 innings, giving up no runs on two hits and throwing an efficient 83 pitches - 54 for strikes.
The Wings' best scoring chance came in the seventh inning, when Tommy Field led off with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch with two out - but the Wings couldn't get Field home.
Chapman struck out three in 1.2 relief innings. Drew Rucinski pitched the ninth inning, allowing an infield hit while striking out two.
