Buffalo handles Louisville 13-2


The Bisons scored 13 runs on 19 hits to emerge victorious over the Bats 13-2 Friday night at Louisville Slugger Field

Brett Oberholtzer put together a solid outing for the Herd behind a 19-hit offensive barrage. He pitched seven innings allowing two runs on seven hits. The lefty struck out six Louisville batters without picking up a single walk. Tonight's game was the first time since June 1st Oberholtzer faired seven innings.

With two outs in the first, the Herd managed to get a pair of base runners with a single for Gergorio Petit and free pass for Mike Ohlman. Rowdy Tellez then found a hole in the shift for a single allowing Petit to score. Jason Leblebijian stepped into the box and smacked a three-run blast over the wall in left. The homer was his ninth and 50th RBI of the season to give Buffalo a 4-0 lead.

Buffalo started the second with back-to-back hits. The first knock was a triple for Andrew Guillotte, followed by a base hit for Roemon Fields to score the run from third. Bats pitcher Amir Garrett then made a throwing error attempting a pick-off at first. The miscue allowed Fields to scamper safely into third. Jon Berti singled back up the middle for the RBI. After Dwight Smith Jr. singled, Petit grounded to the third baseman who stepped on the bag but overthrew the first baseman allowing both runners to advance into second and third. With runners in scoring position, a wild pitch by Lisalverto Bonilla allowed Smith Jr. to make it home from third. With four runs in the first and three in the second, the Herd held a 7-1 lead after just two innings of play.

Three straight singles in the sixth loaded the bases fort the Herd with no outs. The fourth straight hit of the inning was an infield single by Petit scoring a run. The Bisons scored another run on the fifth straight single in the inning, this time off the bat of Ohlman tallying another run. With the bases loaded Tellez grounded into a double play allowing the run on third to score, extending Buffalo's lead to 10-1 in the sixth.

A pair of walks to Guillotte and Berti followed by four straight hits extended Buffalo's advantage in the seventh. RBI singles for Ohlman, Smith Jr. and Tellez made it 13-2 Bisons.

The Herd will look to stay hot Saturday night for game three of the series agaisnt Louisville. First pitched is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
