UB names Burns and Anderson as Athletes of the Week

Senior Megan Burns continued her domination in the water in the Bulls first meet of the 2017-18 campaign as she was able to collect four first-place finishes at the FIU Fall Classic. Burns shined to open the season as she collected victories in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free and 400 free relay. The senior collected the win in the 50 free with a time of 23.42, the 100 free in 51.20, the 200 free in 1:50.33. She was also the anchor of the 400 free relay squad that collected the win in 3:28.11. Burns' efforts helped guide Buffalo to a second place finish behind the hosts from FIU in the eight team field.

Drew Anderson threw for a school-record 597 yards and seven touchdowns and added another touchdown on the ground in a 71-68 seven-overtime loss to Western Michigan on Saturday. Anderson’s 597 passing yards were not only a school record, but also the most for a single game in Mid-American Conference history. His seven touchdowns also tied the single-game MAC record. Anderson completed 35-of-61 pass attempts and didn’t throw a single interception. The junior signal-caller had four completions of 53 yards or more in the game and threw touchdown passes of 64, 8, 54, 5, 25, 4 and 27 yards. He also added a 2-yard touchdown run in the sixth overtime to extend the game.
