ALERT: Gillibrand leads charge to force Franken's resignation

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand led a charge early this afternoon, asking for Minn. Sen. Al Franken to resign over allegations of sexual harassment.

Nine other  Democratic senators have since followed in Gillibrand's footsteps, asking fellow Democrat Franken to resign his senate seat.

Franken will reportedly make an announcement on Thursday, although it's unknown whether he will announce is resignation or if he'll continue to fight.

If Franken resigns his post, the seat will be filled by appointment of Minnesota's Democratic governor, essentially assuring the Democratic Party would maintain the seat.
