Turnovers plague Canisius women’s basketball in defeat to Morehead State

Canisius women's basketball turned the ball over a season-high 31 times, leading to 36 Morehead State points, as the Golden Griffins fell to the Eagles, 76-52 at the Koessler Athletic Center. With the loss Canisius dropped to 2-7, while Morehead State improved to 8-3.

Despite a closely contested first quarter, the second frame proved to once again be a difference-maker, as the Eagles stormed out to a 21-9 advantage in the frame, staking claim to a 41-23 advantage, a lead the Blue and Gold never recovered from.

Sara Hinriksdotter led all scorers in the game, as she tallied 17 points, and shot 7-of-12 from the field. She added three rebounds and one assist in the losing effort. Offense was once again at a premium for Canisius, with no other player posting double-digits.

Margret Halfdanardottir came close, as she shot .500 from the floor, (4-of-8) and totaled nine points, six rebounds and two assists.

The Eagles had four players reach double-digit point totals, with Erin Blaine's effort leading the charge. Blaine registered 16 points, and added eight rebounds. Miranda Crockett (14 points), Darianne Seward (11 points), and Tierra McGowan (10 points), rounded out the double-figure scorers.

The Eagles shot 44.1 percent from the floor and narrowly edged the Griffs on the glass, outrebounding Canisius, 38-37, however the turnovers proved to be the difference. Morehead State turned it over just 17 times as compared to Canisius' 31.

The Blue and Gold rebounded from shooting just 21 percent (3-of-14) in the second quarter to finish the game with a 37 percent field goal mark, but shot just 29.4 from beyond the arc.
