Rampado drops 41 points in Purple Eagles' victory over Siena


ALBANY -- Victoria Rampado scored a career-high 41 points in the Purple Eagles' 73-68 victory over the Siena Saints on Sunday.

Game Recap
  • The Purple Eagles and the Saints went back and forth in the first quarter. The Saints led, 11-6, with five minutes remaining in the quarter but two points from Stroemple and five from Rampado put NU in the lead, 13-11, with a little over one minute to play. Niagara and Siena were tied, 13-13, going into the second quarter.
  • In the second quarter, the Purple Eagles jumped out to a 20-13 lead with a little under seven minutes remaining. Siena came back to take a 23-22 lead, but a free throw from Rampado tied things up once again, 23-23, with about a minute and a half remaining in the quarter. Thirty seconds later, Niagara reclaimed the lead and was ahead of the Saints, 27-25, at the end of the first half.
  • The Purple Eagles and the Saints were tied four times in the third quarter but, with about two minutes left, NU began to surge offensively. Six points from Rampado and two from Jai Moore to close out the third quarter put Niagara ahead of the Saints, 49-42.
  • Niagara started rolling in the fourth quarter. Seven points from Rampado put NU up, 56-42, with over eight and half minutes remaining in the game. Six more points from Rampado and five from Stroemple helped the Purple Eagles to a 73-68 victory over the Saints.

  • "This was a great team road win," said head coach Jada Pierce. "I'm extremely proud of everyone's effort and toughness. Our seniors did an especially great job leading us to victory!"

Inside the Numbers
  • Rampado's 41 points are the second-most single game points in Niagara women's basketball history. It is the most scored in a single game in MAAC women's basketball this season and is tied for seventh-most in all-time MAAC history. Rampado made 17-of-23 field goals, which is tied for fourth-most in the MAAC. 
  • Rampado also led the team with 15 rebounds to record her third straight double-double and eighth double-double of the season.
  • Stroemple added a season-high 20 points and had a team-high three steals.
  • Rampado and Stroemple combined for 61 of the Purple Eagles' 73 points. Jamie Sherburne and Moore each added six points.
  • Sherburne led the Purple Eagles with 11 assists, which is a career-high.
