UB athletics records 12th straight 3.0 semester

BUFFALO -- It was another impressive semester in the classroom for University at Buffalo student-athletes as they posted a combine 3.052 grade point average. It marked the 12th straight semester UB student-athletes have surpassed the 3.0 combined mark.

Women's swimming and diving claimed the top spot for the fall with a 3.469 team grade point average. Men's cross country led all men's teams with a 3.265 GPA. Men's tennis had the most improved semester from the spring with a 3.081, followed by men's track and field (3.155) and men's cross country (3.265).

Overall, 11 teams had a 3.0 grade point average or better – women's swimming and diving (3.469), women's cross country (3.409), volleyball (3.342), women's soccer (3.300), women's basketball (3.269), men's cross country (3.265), women's track and field (3.247), women's tennis (3.173), men's track and field (3.155), softball (3.087) and men's tennis (3.081). 

The department had 19 individuals with perfect 4.0 GPAs and 104 others that were 3.5 or better. In all, 231 of UB's 395 total student-athletes (58 percent) reached the 3.0 plateau.

"Once again, our student-athletes have proven their commitment to academic excellence," UB Director of Athletics Allen Greene said. "Achieving a 3.0 for 12 straight semesters at this academically rigorous university fills me with great pride, and demonstrates the seriousness in which our young people are invested in themselves."

The University at Buffalo is the largest university in the state system of New York.
