Ducks drop Sabres in overtime

BUFFALO -- Adam Henrique scored 1:36 into overtime, lifting the Anaheim Ducks over the Buffalo Sabres, 4-3 in what was a back-and-forth affair.

The hometown Sabres got on the board first with a Zemgus Girgensons goal 3:22 into the first period.

Rickard Rakell tied it for the Ducks just 21 seconds into the second. Jack Eichel put Buffalo back on top again at 17:18 of the second. But the lead was short-lived as Ondrej Kase tied it at 2 with 39 seconds to go in the second.

Anaheim took its first lead of the game on a fluke goal 11:30 into the third period. Corey Perry was credited with the goal, as he was the last Duck to touch the puck. In actuality, the Sabres own Ryan O'Reilly attempted to clear the puck but accidentally banked it off of Sabres netminder Robin Lehner. O'Reilly erased the deficit he created when he tied it again with just 15 seconds to go in regulation, leading to the overtime period.

That overtime goal saw Henrique receive a pass from Kase and take a shot from the high slot that deflected off the stick of Sabres defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen beating Lehner over his right shoulder.

The Sabres next host the New York Islanders at 7 p.m. Thursday.
