Vogt receives Kenmore 'Good Neighbor Award'

STAFF REPORTS

KENMORE -- A Town of Tonawanda resident was honored on March 12 for her work in welcoming Kenmore’s newest arrivals to the village.

Kenmore Village Improvement Society member Lee Ann Vogt was presented the KVIS’ Good Neighbor Award during the group’s monthly meeting. For the past five years, Vogt has volunteered as the coordinator for the KVIS Newborn Onesie initiative, which gives new Village of Kenmore parents a baby onesie that reads “Made in Kenmore.” She also wraps and packages the onesies with cards that state, “A gift for your newborn from the Kenmore Village Improvement Society.”

Vogt volunteered for the project because she thought it sounded like fun.

“It’s a cheerful, joyful thing,” she said.

“We started the Onesie initiative to welcome our youngest residents and to help parents begin the wonderful journey of raising their child and here in Kenmore,” KVIS President Melissa Foster said.

The initiative is open to Village of Kenmore residents. Those who recently have had babies or who know of parents who are expecting may contact KVIS President Melissa Foster at 716.877.0477 or 716.418.4550 or mail@villageofkenmore.com.

In 2008, the Kenmore Village Improvement Society was formed to make life better for those who live in Kenmore by engaging residents to come together to identify goals and to achieve them. KVIS aims to promote a family-friendly community and to encourage communication and cooperation. The group is in the midst of planning several annual events, including The Big Kenmore Clean-up, Dog Days of Kenmore, and the Children’s Concert Series. KVIS also soon will announce events that will be held throughout the year that to mark the group’s 10th anniversary.
