Huge weekend on tap for UB tennis

UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo men's and women's tennis teams will host four matches this weekend at the Miller Tennis Center against league competition as both programs are looking to improve on their seeding with Mid-American Conference Tournaments less than a month away.

The UB women's team has won eight straight matches and enters the weekend with a perfect 4-0 record in MAC play.  The Bulls will host Northern Illinois to begin the weekend on Friday afternoon at 12pm.  The Bulls will enter the match with an 11-3 record, coming off a weekend where the Bulls picked up huge road wins at Miami and Bowling Green.  The Huskies are 5-13 on the season and are still looking for their first MAC win.
The UB men's squad will then take the courts later in the afternoon on Friday afternoon as they host MAC affiliate member Binghamton in a conference match beginning at 4pm. The Bulls are 8-8 on the year and 1-1 in league play, coming off a 4-0 win over Monmouth last week.  Most recently, senior Petr Vodak and Vidit Vaghela were named the MAC Doubles Team of the Week and earned a national ranking by the ITA of #64.  The Bearcats will enter Friday's match with a 3-13 record and an 0-2 mark in league play.
Head coach Lee Nickell and the UB men will remain home at the Miller Tennis Center on Saturday at 1pm when the Bulls host Toledo.  This will be the second meeting between the Bulls and Rockets as UB defeated Toledo on the road 6-1 in mid-March. Toledo is 3-12 on the season and 0-3 in league play.
The weekend will wrap up on Sunday afternoon as head coach Kristen Maines and the Buffalo women's team will be back in action, hosting Western Michigan at 12:30pm. The Broncos are the only other undefeated team in league play entering the weekend.  Western Michigan is 11-7 on the year and 2-0 in the MAC as they face Akron on Friday afternoon.
All four matches will take place at Miller Tennis Center, which is located at 5959 Sheridan Drive, Williamsville, NY 14221.
