Joe Biagini gets the ball for Bisons on Opening Day

STAFF REPORTS

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Bisons manager Bobby Meacham has announced that RHP Joe Biagini will be the team's Opening Day starter for the Herd's first game of the 2018 Seasson, Friday, April 6 against the Rochester Red Wings at Frontier Field (6:05 p.m.).
Biagini will be followed by LHP Ryan Borucki, RHP Deck McGuire, RHP Taylor Guerrieri and RHP Chris Rowley in the Bisons' rotation. That would put Borucki in line for the Bisons' Home Opener on Thursday, April 12 against Indianapolis (2:05 p.m.).
Biagini, 27, is in his third season in the Blue Jays' organization after being acquired in the Rule-V draft from San Francisco in 2015. The right hander was 3-13 in 2017 with Toronto, making 18 starts and 44 total appearances. He also started four games for the Herd in 2017, with a 1-1 record and a 3.12 ERA. He worked exclusively in the bullpen in 2016, with 60 appearances for Toronto. He amassed a 4-3 record in 2016, while also making six relief appearances in the playoffs for the Jays.
Biagini was originally selected by the Giants in the 26th Round (807) of the 2011 Draft out of the University of California, Davis. He joined Daniel Descalso and Steve Brown as the only other players from the school to play in the Major Leagues, when he made his MLB debut with the Blue Jays in 2016.
