Niagara women’s tennis dominates Fairfield for third straight win

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. –  The Niagara Purple Eagles earned their third consecutive victory with a convincing 6-1 win over the Fairfield Stags on Saturday.
 
Match Summary

  • The Purple Eagles won all three double matches to win the point.
  • Niagara won the first doubles match, 6-2, in No. 3 doubles by Sharlee Deshmukh and Shannon Wong.
  • Niagara had to rally in both one and two doubles to win those respective matches.
  • Niagara's No. 1 team of Stella Peisakhova and Andreea Peteu trailed 4-0 before rallying to a 7-5 win.
  • The No. 2 team of Chhinda Som and Ali Hutchinson faced a 5-2 deficit before pulling out a 7-6 (5) victory.
  • In singles action, the Purple Eagles took five of the six matches.
  • Peisakhova cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win in No. 1 singles.
  • Deshmukh topped Courtney Connors in straight sets to give Niagara a 3-0 lead.
  • Wong clinched the match for the Purple Eagles. She came from behind to take the first set 7-6 (2), and won the second set 6-2.
  • Peteu and Som each won their respective matches in three sets.

  • The doubles team of Stella Peisakhova/Andreea Peteu and Ali Hutchinson/Chhinda Som both improved to 3-0 in MAAC matches. The team of Hutchinson and Som has won five straight overall, while Peisakhova and Peteu are on a three-match winning streak.
  • Andreea Peteu (No. 2 singles) and Shannon Wong (No. 5 singles) both improved to 3-1 in MAAC matches.
