NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- The Niagara University women's lacrosse team opened the game on a 5-0 scoring run en route to defeating Quinnipiac, 15-11, on senior day.

Game Recap

  • Niagara jumped out to a 3-0 lead 1:10 into the game with two from Alexis Morales. Morales opened the scoring 10 seconds into the game off a feed from Rachel MacCheyne, who scored 44 seconds later before Morales grabbed her second at the 28:50 mark.
  • Caroline Crump scored the next two goals for Niagara to extend its lead to 5-0.
  • Allison Kuhn got the Bobcats on the board with 20:40 remaining in the first half, but was quickly answered by MacCheyne's 50th goal of the season less than two minutes later.
  • Crump registered her hat-trick with just under 14 minutes remaining to give Niagara a 7-2 lead.
  • Quinnipiac reeled off three straight goals to cut Niagara's lead to 7-5 at 10:05 left in the first half.
  • The Purple Eagles outscored the Bobcats 3-2 in the final 10 minutes to take a 10-7 halftime lead, highlighted by MacCheyne's third goal of the game and Alina Del Toro's first collegiate goal.
  • Niagara scored the first three goals of the second half, extending its lead to 13-7 and putting the game out of reach.
  • The Purple Eagles outscored the Bobcats 5-4 in the second half.

Senior Day

  • Prior to the game, Niagara honored its senior class – Olivia Renner, Jill Ford, Alexandra Higgins, Samantha Brill, and Grace Hunt.  

Inside the Numbers

  • Rachel MacCheyne scored five goals and registered an assist on the afternoon, bringing her season totals to 53 goals, 17 assists and 70 points. She leads the team in goals, points, shots (118) and shots on goal (82) while ranking second on the team with 17 assists.
  • Caroline Crump (4G), Alexis Morales (2G, A) and Jillian Ford (2A) all recorded multi-point games for Niagara.
  • MacCheyne broke the century mark for draw controls after gathering six on the day, bringing her team-leading tally to 105.
  • Alexandra Higgins was a defensive force once again, recording two ground balls and two caused turnovers. She leads the team 39 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers. Her 12 draw controls bring her season total to 82, second behind MacCheyne.
  • Aubrey DeVeau made 12 saves in net for the Purple Eagles and now has 75 on the season.
