Canisius men’s and women’s lacrosse play for MAAC crowns Saturday


BUFFALO, N.Y. -- On Saturday, both the Canisius men's and women's lacrosse programs will play for a MAAC Championship, as both teams advanced to its respective conference title games with semifinal wins over the MAAC's top seeds. The men's team defeated No. 1 seed Quinnipiac 11-10 in overtime, while the women's squad moved into the championship game after defeating Marist 13-10.

The Canisius men's lacrosse team will look to win its third MAAC championship, and first since 2012, on Saturday when the Golden Griffins take on Detroit-Mercy at 10 a.m., in West Long Branch, N.J. That game will be televised live to a national-TV audience on ESPNU. The winner of the MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship game will earn the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship field. The Canisius women's lacrosse team will be making its eighth-straight MAAC Championship game appearance on Saturday, when the fourth-seeded Griffs take on No. 3 seed Fairfield at 1 p.m., in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Fans can watch that game online through MAAC.tv. The winner of that game will earn a berth in the NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship tournament. This marks just the second time in program history where both the Canisius men's and women's lacrosse programs have played for a MAAC championship in the same season. Both teams played for and won the MAAC crown in 2012.
