CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS

The Canisius outdoor track team heads to Rider University this weekend for the 2018 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Action is set to start at noon.

Last week, the Golden Griffins took part in both the Penn Relays and the UB Invitational, with sophomore Donny Glavin highlighting the events, setting a new personal best in the men's 5,000-meter event.

At the UB Invitational, junior Kayla Stewart had a first-place performance in the women's 3K Steeplechase (11:50.04), while fellow junior Aileen Doyle had a strong performance as well, taking third in the women's 3000-meter, with a time of 10:30.60. Livia Chase placed sixth in that event with a mark of 10:54.39.

Earlier this season, Canisius had a standout performance at the Alfred State Invite. That event saw freshman Paul Suflita tally a first-place finish with his 10:17.41 mark in the men's 3000-meter Steeplechase. Also running well for Canisius was sophomore Marcus Brown, who placed first in the men's 1500-meter run with a mark of 4:03.97. Teammates Nick Neamtu (4:06.58), Connor Doran (4:07.43), Austin Oetigner (4:10.09), Patrick Crowley (4:10.26), Justin Vestri (4:10.56), Turner Dirrigl(4:16.46), Jordan Obrochta (4:17.91), and Anthony Belfatto (4:18.53) finished second through ninth, respectively.

At the Bucknell Bison Classic, junior Siobhan Quinn placed first in the women's 5,000-meter event with her time of 18:10.93. Senior Jeff Antolos ran to an 13th-place finish in the 10,000-meter event with a time of 30:18.97. Antolos time qualified him for the IC4A Championship, and he now owns the third best time in school history. Glavin qualified for the IC4A's as well, with his 22nd place finish (14:41.9) in the 5,000-meter event.

The two-day Championship event will run through Sunday.

On Friday, the MAAC announced that 22 Canisius student-athletes have been named to the 2018 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Team.
