Elmira College's Dominique Del Calzo named 2018 Twain Art Essay winner

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Center for Mark Twain Studies announced that Dominique Del Calzo, of Bemus Point, NY (14712), was one of several students named an award recipient in the 2018 "Portraying Mark Twain" Art Competition and the 2018 "Mark Twain Essay" Prize.

The 2018 "Mark Twain Essay" Prize was awarded to Hannah Smith '21 with Dominique Del Calzo '18 chosen runner-up.

The contest is open to any student at Elmira College from any discipline. A panel of judges, consisting of Elmira College faculty and administrators, chooses the best essay related to some facet of Mark Twain Studies. The winner of the Mark Twain Essay Contest has her/his name added to a growing list of names memorialized on the pedestal of the Mark Twain statue, located in the entrance to McGraw Hall.

The "Portraying Mark Twain" Art Competition winners, also chosen by a panel of EC faculty and staff, are Sabrina Didas '20, Carissa Neary '19, EmilyAnn LaClair '19, Tsuyoshi Kaji '19, and Alicia Gassner '19.

Art competition submissions feature pieces that are inspired by Mark Twain and represent his literature or aspects of his life in Elmira and at Quarry Farm. Winning entries will be featured in future publications of Elmira College and the Center for Mark Twain Studies.

All 2018 entries, as well as additional information about entering the contest, can be found at the "Portraying Mark Twain" art competition website. Submissions for next year's "Portraying Mark Twain" art competition are open. Students may enter as often as they wish! The deadline for next year's competition is March 30, 2019.
