Niagara baseball to celebrate Senior Day this weekend against Rider

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- The Niagara baseball team hosts Rider for a three-game series May 12-13. The Purple Eagles and the Broncs will play a single game on Saturday, May 12 at 4:00 p.m. and a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 13. The team's graduating class will be honored prior to the start of Sunday's games. Live audio will be available for game one and the second game of Sunday's DH, with Todd Callen on the call.

  • The Purple Eagles closed out non-conference play with a 7-5 victory over Albany on Wednesday, May 9.

On the Field: Niagara Purple Eagles
  • Shortstop Greg Cullen continues to lead the nation in batting average (.454) and on-base percentage (.548). He has a team-high 69 hits, which is the most in the MAAC this season. Cullen leads the Purple Eagles, and is second in the MAAC, in runs scored with 42. Cullen's .618 slugging percentage is also second in the MAAC.
  • First baseman Peter Battaglia leads the Purple Eagles with 45 RBIs, 15 doubles and six homeruns. He is second in both RBIs and doubles.
  • Third baseman Owen Dziados' 44 RBIs are the third-most in the MAAC.
  • Outfielder Trevor McCauley's three triples so far this season are tied for most in the conference.
  • Center fielder Julian Gallup leads the MAAC in stolen bases with 15 on the season so far.
  • On the mound, Cody Eckerson (2-5) leads the Purple Eagles with 68 strikeouts in 55.2 innings pitched. He is fifth in the MAAC in strikeouts.

On the Field: Rider Broncs
  • Outfielder Joe Simone leads the Broncs with 29 runs scored, 52 hits, 13 doubles and three triples. Simone's .454 on-base percentage is the fourth-best in the MAAC.
  • Catcher Brennan McAllister has a team-best .364 batting average, which is third in the MAAC.  
  • First baseman Riley Mihalik leads Rider in RBIs with 26.
  • Pete Soporowski (3-5) leads the Bronc pitching staff with 42 strikeouts in 57.2 innings pitched.
