Canisius athletics partners with Greater Niagara Frontier Council

CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS

Generic Story OneBUFFALO, N.Y. -- Canisius College Athletics and the Boy Scouts representing the Greater Niagara Frontier Council have reached an agreement to increase awareness for scouting in Western New York and increase attendance at selected Golden Griffin home athletic events.

"This is an exciting partnership for both the Boy Scouts and Canisius," Golden Griffin associate athletic director John Maddock said. "We will be able to provide opportunities to boys in the area to interact with our coaching staff and student-athletes, while the Boy Scouts will receive opportunities, exclusive to them, at some of our home games for basketball, hockey and lacrosse."

Canisius will identify three games during the 2018-19 season (one each for basketball, hockey and lacrosse) where the Scouts will have the opportunity to high-five players, receive locker room tours, participate in a postgame "Meet and Greet", as well as presenting the colors and singing the National Anthem.

"The Greater Niagara Frontier Council looks forward to this great partnership between our Scouts and Canisius," Dari Vassell, Tatonka District Executive said. "I am personally excited for the opportunity and the Scouts are looking forward to this as well."

"Being an Alumnus of such a great institution as Canisius, and a professional with such an outstanding organization as The Boy Scouts, I am excited about this collaboration," Kevin Glover, Onondaga District Executive said. "This partnership will be extremely beneficial to not only Canisius and the Greater Niagara Frontier Council of the Boy Scouts, but to all of the young scouters within the Western New York community.  We look forward to a successful and long-running collaborative effort."

In addition, Canisius will arrange for members of the Griffs' coaching staffs to speak with pack leaders and the boy scouts and have players visit group meetings. Scouts will be able to attend selected practices and receive reduced price tickets.
