Former Canisius baseball standout Christ Conley to play for Utica Unicorns

Christ ConleyBUFFALO, N.Y. -- Recent Canisius graduate Christ Conley has agreed to terms with the Utica (Mich.) Unicorns of the United Shore Professional Baseball League.
 

A native of Derby, N.Y., Conley appeared in 200 games during his four-year career with the Golden Griffins, batting .294 with 167 hits, 114 RBI and 102 runs scored.
 
As a senior, Conley started 53 of 54 games played behind the plate, hitting .285 with 49 hits, 35 RBI and a team-high 50 walks. He was named to the watch list for the Johnny Bench Award, given annually to the top catcher NCAA Division I baseball.  
 
The USPBL, an independent league launched in May 2016, features four teams playing a full schedule at Jimmy John's Field in downtown Utica, Mich.
 
The league is designed as an innovative developmental finishing school for players seeking to make it to the Majors with teams comprised of top level college baseball players from around the country.
 
The USPBL provides players access to state of the art coaching, the very best in musculoskeletal training and strength and conditioning programs, the latest advances in sabermetrics and video analysis, as well as a focus on personal development off the field.
 
More than 20 USPBL players have been signed up by Major League organizations since the league's foundation in 2016.
