Zack Granite "Plates" the winning run for Wings over Syracuse

STAFF REPORTS

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Rochester Plates beat the Syracuse Salt Potatoes 2-1 in 10 innings Thursday night at Frontier Field, the first walk-off win of the season. The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Yankees) open a three-game set here Friday night; the gates open early at 5:30 p.m. for a pre-game concert by Me and the Boyz, with fireworks following the game.
The Plates got an impressive outing from starting pitcher Zack Littell, as he did not let up a hit through the first four innings.
In the bottom of the fifth, Rochester got their first base hit off of Syracuse starter Austin Voth through a double from LaMonte Wade. After three straight outs, Wade was left stranded in scoring position.
Tyler Duffey came on in relief of Littell in the seventh inning. Littell went 6.2 innings, allowing five hits while walking one and striking out six. He threw 98 pitches, 63 were for strikes.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jake Cave led off with a single issued by Voth. After a one-out walk to Wade, Voth was relieved after 6.1 innings. Voth allowed one earned run on two hits while walking one and striking out six. He threw for 92 pitches, 60 for strikes. With a single from Willians Astudillo immediately following the pitching change, the bases were loaded for the Plates.Kennys Vargas grounded into what appeared to an inning-ending double play with Astudillo being called out on a tag running to second base. A spirited argument by Astudillo and manager Joel Skinner followed, and after the umpires conferred the call was reversed. Astudillo was ruled safe at second, with Cave scoring on Vargas' groundout which gave Rochester a late 1-0 lead. Syracuse manager Randy Knorr immediately came out to argue the reversal, and was ejected by third base umpire Shane Livensparger.
During the ninth, the Salt Potatoes took advantage of a lead-off walk issued by Duffey, a single, and a game-tying fielder's choice by Irving Falu to make it 1-1.
Duffey worked 2.1 innings of relief, allowing a hit, a run, and two walks while striking out three. Nick Anderson took over on the mound to start the 10th inning, and escaped a two on two out scoring threat by striking out Jose Marmolejos.
In the Plates' half of the 10th, starting with pinch-runner Leonardo Reginatto at second base, Gregorio Petit put down a sacrifice bunt that put Reginatto at third base with one out. Zack Granite lined a single up the middle on a 2-2 pitch from Josh Edgin, giving the Plates the walk-off win.
Byron Buxton went 1-for-3 with two strikeouts and also reached base when hit by a pitch, as part of his rehab assignment.
