Canisius hockey lands five players on AHCA All-American Scholar list

2017-18 hockey goalmouth huddleBUFFALO, N.Y. -- Five members of the Canisius hockey team were recognized as Krampade All-American Scholars for the 2017-18 season by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA), the organization announced.
 
Graduated seniors Jeff Murray and Jack Stander, rising seniors Cameron Heath and Matt McLeod and rising junior Matt McLeod were all honored for posting a grade point average of at least a 3.60 each semester and participating in 40 percent of games played during the 2017-18 campaign. Heath, McLeod and Murray were all repeat selections from the inaugural All-American Scholar Team that was selected after the 2016-17 season.
 
"We are extremely proud of this group of student-athletes who have competed at the highest levels of the game on the ice and matched that performance in the classroom," AHCA executive director Joe Bertagna said. "The sport demands a great deal from these athletes, so it is a great statement they make, individually and collectively, with their ability to attain this level of academic achievement."
 
Canisius posted a 19-17-2 overall record during the 2017-18 season, highlighted by a 17-11-0 mark in conference play as it claimed second place in the Atlantic Hockey standings. The Golden Griffins advanced to the semifinals of the AHC Tournament for the fifth time in the past six seasons before falling to eventual tournament champion and NCAA Regional finalist Air Force.
