New York State Police Newsroom Notification: Niagara man charged with DWI after striking a pedestrian

PRESS RELEASE

A 53 year old Niagara Falls man was charged with DWI on July 6, 2018 following a traffic accident involving a pedestrian.

According to New York State Troopers, officers responded to a pedestrian collision on Military Road in the town of Niagara.  Further investigation revealed that Arthur R. Martin, operating a 2008 Dodge Ram, pulled out of Wegmans on Military Road and struck a 26-year-old pedestrian who was crossing Military Road in the designated crosswalk.  Martin continued to travel down Military Road for approximately one-hundred yards with the 26-year-old under the vehicle before stopping.  The 26-year-old was removed from under the vehicle and transported by Mercy Flight for multiple injuries. Martin was given SFST in which he failed. Martin was arrested for DWI and transported to SP Niagara.  Martin refused to take a breath test and a court order was issued for a blood test, which was administered.

Martin was arraigned at the town of Niagara Court and remanded to the Niagara County Jail.

The NYSP Collision Reconstruction Unit assisted in this investigation.

This is still an ongoing criminal investigation.
