Niagara hockey's Nick Farmer named captain for 2018-19 season

FarmerNIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- Niagara University hockey head coach Jason Lammers announced on Tuesday that senior forward Nick Farmer has been named the team's captain for the upcoming 2018-19 season.
"We are excited to watch our leadership grow and evolve so that student-athletes take ownership of the program," said Lammers. "Nick Farmer is the perfect person to lead this transformation."
Farmer, a native of Spokane, Wash., is coming off a junior campaign that saw him compete in each of the team's 36 games. He finished the year tied for fourth on the team with 14 points (8 G, 6 A). His 77 shots on goal and 35 blocked shots were the third-highest totals on the team in the respective categories.
"I am extremely honored that the coaching staff would think of me for [the captaincy]," Farmer commented. "Now that everyone is here for the summer session, we're excited and working extremely hard to prepare for the season."
Farmer will be the first solo captain since Robert Martini wore the "C" in 2011-12. Since men's hockey's first season at the varsity level in 1996-97, there have been six other solo captains in team history, with Mike Isherwood (1997-00) being the only one in multiple seasons.
Lammers added that alternate captains will be announced prior to the start of the season.
