Canisius men’s soccer to face Northern Kentucky in Monday matinee


Bjarki Benediktsson action 9-10-17BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Canisius men's soccer team continues its season-opening road swing Monday with an 11 a.m. matinee against Northern Kentucky at the NKU Soccer Stadium in Highland Heights, K.Y.
Last Time Out
• Canisius opened the 2018 season Friday with a 3-0 victory at Robert Morris.
• Freshman Alessio Atzori and junior Troy Brady scored a little more than four minutes apart midway through the first half to give the Griffs a 2-0 lead before Brady closed out the scoring in the 77th minute with a penalty-kick goal.
• Senior Bryce Tramuta stopped all five shots he faced as he recorded his second career shutout.
• Senior Bjarki Benediktsson tallied his 12th assist in a Canisius uniform during Friday's contest, moving him into a tie for 10th place on the program's career assists chart.
• Brady two-goal performance on Friday marked the third time in his career he has tallied multiple goals in a single game, matching his output in wins against VMI and Niagara last season.
Scouting Northern Kentucky 
• Northern Kentucky heads into Monday's matinee looking to remain undefeated after opening the 2018 season Saturday with a 3-2 win at Bowling Green.
• The Norse, picked seventh in the Horizon League preseason poll, return 14 players from last year's team that posted a 7-6-4 overall record and a 3-4-2 mark in league play. 
• Rikard Lindqvist and Tom Suchecki are back to pace the NKU attack after both players finished with four goals and two assists last season.
• 2017 Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year Jim Barkei returns after a junior campaign that saw him record a 0.84 goals against average and a 0.797 save percentage as he recorded eight shutouts on the year.
• Northern Kentucky is coached by former Buffalo head coach Stu Riddle. Riddle spent eight seasons with the Bulls before taking over the Norse program prior to the start of the 2017 campaign.

• Monday's contest serves as the first meeting between Canisius and Northern Kentucky.
