Canisius women's soccer falls to Youngstown State, 1-0

YOUNGSTOWN, O.H. -- An own goal in the 54th minute proved to be the difference as the Canisius women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback to Youngstown State Sunday at Farmers National Bank Field in Youngstown, Ohio.

With the loss, the Golden Griffins fell to 2-1-0 on the young season. The Penguins improved to 1-2-1 with the win.
In the games' 54th minute, Youngstown State sophomore Sammy Salatino booted a corner kick that deflected off of a Canisius defender and into the goal. The lone goal of the contest was credited as an own goal.
Canisius junior goalkeeper Alana Rossi was credited with one save en route to her first loss of the season. Youngstown Goal keeper Kate McEachern was credited with two saves for the Penguins in her first victory of the campaign. The Blue and Gold out shot the Penguins, 8-7, and tied Youngstown, 2-2, in shots on goal.

It doesn't do us any good to blame players when we lose. We play as a team, we win as a team, and we lose as a team. One player making a bad decision can be overcome with good communication…but we had chances to score and just didn't execute properly. "
Game Notes
• With Sunday's loss, Canisius moves to 9-5-1 against Youngstown in the all-time series.
• Sundays loss to Youngstown is the first of the season for Canisius.

Canisius returns to action Sept. 2, when the team travels to Olean, N.Y. to face little-three foe St. Bonaventure. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
