Gas prices level out -- for now

STAFF REPORTS

Gasoline prices in Western New York -- and elsewhere - remain mostly unchanged from a week ago.

In Buffalo, the price per gallon is $2.99, the same as it was a week ago. In Rochester, the price is $2.92, down a penny from last Monday. Statewide, the price is $2.99, down a penny from a week ago. And nationally, the average is $2.84, no change from last week.

A year ago, the NYS average was $2.48.

Gas prices are flat as demand for gasoline continues to slow down. That slower demand along with growing domestic stocks of gasoline, have contributed to pump prices dipping slightly. Gas demand is expected to spike for Labor Day travel, leading to a likely, but brief, price jump as drivers take to the nation’s roads one last time before fall arrives.
