Total of 11 Elmira College hockey players recognized as AHCA All-American Scholars

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's and women's ice hockey programs continued to earn recognition for their performance in the classroom, as 11 student-athletes were named American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American Scholars, including: 

Kevin DiMagno of Penfield, NY
Patrick Schmelzinger of Jamestown, NY
Rachel Grampp of Williamsville, NY

EC was well represented, as six skaters from the men's team and five from the women's earned the honor. For the men, Kevin DiMagno '20, Harry Kramer '20, Blake O'Neill '19, Anthony Parucci '20, Andrew Pucci '20 and Patrick Schmelzinger '20 were all recognized for their work off of the ice.

On the women's side, Kelcey Crawford '18, Rachel Grampp '18, Ari Smith '18, Sydney Harris '21 and Tristen Tolan '21 received the honor. Smith continued to add academic honors to her resume after previously being named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America First-Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), in addition to earning the prestigious Elite 90 Award at the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Ice Hockey Championships. The recently-graduated Crawford garnered extra recognition from the AHCA as one of nine Division III student-athletes to earn both All-America and Scholar All-America honors from the AHCA.

In order to be eligible for the award, varsity student-athletes must have attained a 3.6 GPA in each academic semester and participated in 40 percent of their team's contests during the 2017-18 season. A total of 1,310 NCAA student-athletes received the honor with 821 coming from Division II and III.
