Canisius golf wraps up weekend at Cornell Invitational

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Canisius senior John Dantonio shot an even-par 71 in the final round of the Cornell Invitational Sunday at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Ithaca, N.Y. As a team, the Golden Griffins carded a team score of 295, which allowed the team the finish 13 out of 15 participating schools.
 
GRIFFS' LINEUP
Dantonio's 71 allowed him to post a three-round score of 223, which tied him for 40th in the field. Junior Jaret Chipman, who shot an even-par 71 in the second round on Saturday, shot 74 on Sunday. He tied for 31st with a 54-hole score of 220, his lowest collegiate score for a 54-hole event. Freshman Mike Donner also shot 74 on Sunday and earned a tie for 60th in just his second collegiate tournament.
 
TEAM LEADERBOARD
Yale ran away with the team title, defeating second-place Dartmouth by 24 strokes. The Bulldogs shot 839 for the tournament, which is 13-under par. Dartmouth took second-place with a strong showing on Sunday that allowed the Big Green to move up four spots on the team leaderboard, while Saint Joseph's, Bucknell and St. Bonaventure rounded out the top-five teams.

Canisius' three-round team score of 898 placed the team 13th in the field.
 
INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD
Yale's Eoin Leonard made birdie on the second playoff hole to win individual medalist honors. Leonard forced a sudden-death playoff against Siena's Jared Nelson after Leonard shot a one-under 71 on Sunday. Both players finished the event with three-round scores of 207, which was six-under par.
 
NEXT ON THE TEE
The Griffs will have a week off before returning to action at the Matthews Auto Intercollegiate, hosted by Binghamton, Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
