Canisius' Madeline Beaulieu named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week

No alternative text provided.BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Canisius junior Madeline Beaulieu was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after she scored two goals in the Golden Griffins' 2-2 draw at St. Bonaventure Sunday afternoon.

This marks the first time Beaulieu has been honored by the conference office for her play on the field. In Canisius' draw against the Bonnies, the Vestal, N.Y., native put the Blue and Gold on the scoreboard first with a goal in the game's 15th minute. Her first marker of the season came off an assist from freshman teammate Hope Balling
The game would remain knotted at 1-1 until the 80th minute, when Beaulieu struck again and put Canisius up 2-1 with an unassisted goal. St. Bonaventure wasted little time tying the score at 2-2, as the Bonnies scored just 1:19 after Beaulieu's second score. That marker in the 83rd minute for the home team sent the game into two overtime sessions, where neither team scored score.
"It's pretty exciting to be recognized by the conference for my play on the field but it comes down to how we play and work as a team," Beaulieu said. "Hopefully we can produce more positive results as a team as the season continues."
Sunday's two-goal performance by Beaulieu is her second career multi-goal game. She also had two goals last season, in a win over Oakland Sept. 1, 2017.

"I feel like we are better than ever," head coach Todd Clark said. "She had been out for a little over a week and this was a real test of her value to the team since she only had limited minutes. She played super hard and the combination of her and Paige Buscaglia is taking our team to a new level. We are very proud of her for her honors this week, but we are thankful for her every day."

Canisius will travel to play at cross-town rival Buffalo on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The Griffs will return home Sept. 9 when the team plays host to Cleveland State. That game, which will be broadcast live on ESPN+, will start at 1 p.m.
