UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- University at Buffalo women's soccer freshman goalkeeper Emily Kelly was named Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. This marks the first time in her UB career Kelly has earned the weekly honor and she is the first UB player this season.
The freshman keeper continued her strong play this weekend as she helped guide the Bulls to a perfect 2-0 weekend with a pair of shutout victories over Cornell and Albany. She has now recorded three straight clean sheets and owns a shutout streak of 328:40 minutes, the second longest streak in school history.
In Friday night's 2-0 victory over Cornell, Kelly had a huge game as she was able to make a career-high nine saves including a couple saves from very dangerous positions. On Sunday, Kelly backed up her strong performance with another road clean sheet as she was able to make four stops as UB cruised to the 2-0 win at Albany.
On the year, the Wilson, NY native has posted a 3-1-0 record with a 0.75 goals-against average while making 22 stops and earning three straight clean sheets.
Kelly and the Bulls will return to the pitch on Thursday night for their home opener as they welcome the Canisius Golden Griffins to UB Stadium for a 7:00 pm crosstown rivalry match. Canisius enters the match with a 2-1-1 record after earning a draw on Sunday at St. Bonaventure.
