UB's Emily Kelly named MAC Defensive Player of the Week for second time

UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Freshman goalkeeper Emily Kelly was named Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon. Kelly has now earned the weekly honor twice in her young UB career while as a team, Buffalo has earned the award three straight times as Tess Ford was picked last week.

Kelly continued her strong play in goal for the Bulls this weekend as she earned her sixth straight win as she secured two saves in the 3-1 victory over St. Bonaventure on Friday night. The Wilson, NY native made a pair of key saves in the second half to secure the win for the Bulls, their first six-match winning streak in regulation since 1999.

The freshman has now allowed just two goals across her last 598:40 minutes of action while becoming the second freshman goalkeeper (Laura Dougall) to record at least six straight victories in goal. On the year, Kelly owns a 6-1-0 record to go along with a 0.71 goals-against average, a .868 save percentage and four clean sheets. She currently ranks first in the MAC in save percentage, first in shutouts and second in goals-against average while also being one of three freshman goalkeepers in the nation with at least four clean sheets on the year.

The Bulls will open up MAC play this weekend as they hit the road for a match at Northern Illinois on Friday at 7:00 pm. The Bulls will then head to Kalamazoo, MI on Sunday for a showdown with the Western Michigan Broncos at 1:00 pm.
