Battle of the Bridge match next for Canisius men’s soccer

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Canisius men's soccer team heads north Wednesday to take longtime rival Niagara in a 7 p.m. contest at Niagara Field.
 
The game is part of the "Battle of the Bridge" series between the two schools.
 
Last Time Out
• Fairfield Stags scored twice in the first half and added three more markers after intermission to earn a 5-0 win over Canisius last Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex. 
• Fairfield ended the game with a 15-10 advantage in shots, including an 11-2 lead in shots on goal. The Stags also were credited with seven corner kicks in the win against Canisius' three for the contest.
• Junior Troy Brady led Canisius with four shots, including one on goal.
• Senior Bryce Tramuta recorded six saves in goal for Canisius.
 
Scouting Niagara
• Niagara enters Wednesday's contest looking to build off the momentum gained from a 5-1 victory over visiting Monmouth last Saturday.
• Luca Panchero, the reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, leads the Purple Eagles in scoring with 10 points on four goals and two assists. Panchero tallied two goals and two assists last week on his way to earning the weekly honors.
• Moe Tshuma is second on the team's scoring chart with seven points (3 g, 1a). Tshuma notched two goals in the Purple Eagles' victory over Monmouth, including a penalty-kick marker.
• Steve Casey has started all 12 games in goal for Niagara, posting a 1.78 goals against average and a .704 save percentage in 1064 minutes of action.  
 
Canisius-Niagara Series Notes
• The Griffs and Purple Eagles are meeting for the 59th time in series history on Wednesday. The Purple Eagles hold a 30-23-5 advantage in the series.
• Canisius has played Niagara more than any other school in the program's history.
• The teams have played to scoreless draws in two of their last four matchups, including their most recent matchup at Niagara Field back in 2016.
• Canisius posted a 5-0 victory over Niagara last October at the Demske Sports Complex. Troy Brady scored twice while Alex GrattarolaWill Pauls and Filippo Tamburini also found the back of the net.
