Buffalo State volleyball falls to Potsdam, Oneonta to end SUNYAC play

BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Buffalo State was unable to secure a victory on the final day of the SUNYAC regular season, dropping a pair of straight-set matches against Potsdam and Oneonta today at Brockport.
 
MATCH 1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE:  Potsdam def. Buffalo State, 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-18)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Potsdam used an early 10-2 run to take control of the first set before claiming the 25-18 win.
  • Buffalo State led the second set 18-17, but the Bears answered with the next five points and prevailed 25-20.
  • Potsdam raced out to a 16-7 lead and cruised to a 25-18 win in the final set.
  • Eimile O'Brien (Marietta/Marcellus) led the Bengals with eight kills.
  • Jordan McKenna (Tonawanda/Kenmore East) and Liz Schultheis (Holley/Brockport) added five kills and three blocks each.
  • Brooke Federko (Jamestown/Jamestown) finished with 12 assists and 13 digs.
 
FOR THE FOES

  • Gabby Scott paced Potsdam with 11 kills to go with 13 digs.
  • Brianna Rodda had 34 assists, and Natalie Magallon had 23 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The score was knotted a 16-16 in the opening set before the Red Dragons pulled away for the early lead.
  • Oneonta jumped out to a 6-1 advantage in the second set and never trailed to take a 2-0 set advantage.
  • Buffalo State led 18-17 in the final set, but was unable to close again as the Red Dragons pulled away to finish off the sweep.
  • O'Brien led the attack again for the Bengals with eight kills to go with a team-best nine digs.
 
FOR THE FOES

  • Oneonta had three players with double-digit kills, led by Clara Culeton with 14.
 
UP NEXT                  
Buffalo State will end its season next weekend at the New York Region Challenge at RIT.  The Bengals will open against Penn College on Friday at 7 p.m. and will take on St. John Fisher and NYU on Saturday.
