Buffalo State women’s volleyball cruises past Penn College

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Jordan McKenna(Tonawanda/Kenmore East) and Eimile O'Brien(Marietta/Marcellus) led the Bengals with seven kills each as Buffalo State cruised to a straight-sets win over Penn College to open up the New York Region Challenge at Nazareth College this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Buffalo State stormed out of the gate by scoring 20 of the first 22 points and never looked back as it cruised to a 25-8 win in the first frame. Five different Bengals recorded kills and Brooke Latour(Lakewood/Southwestern) tallied four aces in the set.
  • The Bengals continued their momentum with a 7-0 run midway through the second set to take a 21-9 lead.
  • Penn College trimmed the lead back to 23-13 before a kill from Latour and an ace from McKenna gave the Bengals a 25-13 win in the second set.
  • Buffalo State completed the sweep by using a 19-4 run in the final frame to close out the win.
  • Liz Schultheis (Holley/Brockport) chipped in five kills with a .625 attack percentage.
  • Brooke Federko (Jamestown/Jamestown) added 20 assists.
 
FOR THE FOES

  • Haley Barnes led the Wildcats with seven kills and six digs.
  • Hannah Burnett chipped in 13 assists and six digs.
