Canisius men’s soccer begins homestand Wednesday versus Marist

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Canisius men's soccer team begins a weeklong homestand Wednesday as it entertains Marist in a 4 p.m. Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matinee at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.

• 
Sophomore Filippo Tamburini scored the game's lone goal in the eighth minute and senior Bryce Tramutarecorded two saves to lead Canisius to a 1-0 victory over Monmouth last Saturday at Hesse Field in West Long Branch, N.J.
• Tamburini put the Griffs in front just 7:58 into the contest with an unassisted effort as he placed a shot just inside the left post for his fourth of the campaign. 
• Junior Troy Brady was credited with an assist on the play, increasing his team-leading point total to 13 (5g, 3a).
• Canisius out-shot Monmouth by a 17-8 margin during the contest, highlighted by a 7-0 edge in the first half.
• The Griffs attempted eight of the 10 corner kicks awarded during the match.
• Tamburini's game-winning goal was his second of the season and the fifth of his career.
• The shutout was Canisius' second straight clean sheet and fifth of the 2018 campaign.

Scouting Marist
• Marist enters Wednesday's matchup riding a winning streak that stands at four matches, following a 2-1 home triumph over Manhattan on Oct. 13.
• Three players – Samad Bounthong, Allen Gavilanes and Skylar Conway are tied for the team lead in scoring with 10 points apiece. Bounthong and Gavilanes have recorded a team-best four goals each while Conway paces the squad with four assists.
• Ryan Sinnott has started 10 of the Red Foxes' 12 games in goal this season, compiling a .760 goals against average and a .822 save percentage in 950 minutes.

Canisius-Marist Series Notes
• 
In 23 previous meetings in the series between the Griffs and Red Foxes, Marist holds a 14-8-1 advantage against Canisius.
• The Griffs, however, have had held the edge in the rivalry as of late, posting a 7-4-1 record against the Red Foxes in the last 11 years.
• Canisius recorded a 4-2 victory in their regular season matchup last October at Tenney Stadium.
• Current sophomore Filippo Tamburini scored two goals and added two assists to pace the Griffs in the contest.
