BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Junior Troy Brady scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season and senior Bryce Tramuta made five saves to pace Canisius in a 1-1 draw versus Marist in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex.
With the tie, Canisius moved to 4-6-2 overall and 2-3-1 in league play while the Red Foxes saw their record shift to 6-4-3 on the season and 5-1-1 against MAAC opposition.
Brady opened the scoring in the 24th minute, collecting a pass from sophomore Filippo Tamburini and placing a shot past inside the right post from 20 yards out.
The score remained in favor of the Griffs until the 88:06 mark of the contest, when Beau Horberger headed home a corner kick from Allen Gavilanes to knot the game at 1-1.
In overtime, the teams traded quality chances within moments of each other during the first extra session. In the 95th minute, senior Mo Kretschmer sent a shot from distance towards goal that sailed just over the crossbar before Gavilanes nearly ended the contest in the 97th minute with a nice individual effort that was spoiled on a sliding save by Tramuta.
Assistant Coach Gary Bruce's Postgame Comments
"We knew coming into the game that Marist was going to be a good opponent based on their performance so far this year. One of the takeaways for us today is that we now know that we're going to be able to compete with anybody in the league. We knew that before the season started, but with the results we've had lately, to play a team like Marist and prove that to ourselves for the remainder of the year, is going to be a really positive takeaway for us moving forward."
