No. 3 Brockport overpowers Buffalo State football, 65-7

BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Nationally No. 3-ranked Brockport scored 30 points in the second quarter and piled up 608 yards of total offense in a 65-7 victory over visiting Buffalo State to retain the I-90 Bowl trophy today at Bob Boozer Field.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE

  • Buffalo State finished with just 163 yards of total offense with 211 through the air and minus-48 on the ground, due largely to eight Brockport sacks.
  • Jamar Rutledge (Buffalo/McKinley) was the lone bright spot for the Bengals on offense with eight catches for 115 yards and a touchdown.
  • Kevin Torrillo (Amherst/Sweet Home) finished 16 of 37 for 198 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
  • Gino Bonagura (Lindenhurst/Lindenhurst) made a team-best 11 tackles.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Brockport turned the ball over three times during the game, losing a pair of fumbles and threw one interception to Paul Brinkel (Hamburg/Frontier).  The Golden Eagles' other nine drives ended with a touchdown.
  • Brockport jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead, including an 83-yard scoring pass from Joe Germinerio to Daquan Hubbard.
  • The Golden Eagles blew the game wide open in the second quarter with 30 points on four more touchdowns and a safety when Buffalo State backup quarterback Tony Maple (Buffalo/Burgard) was sacked in the end zone.
  • Brockport found the end zone twice more in the third quarter, before Rutledge finally put the Bengals on the scoreboard with a 70-yard catch and run.
  • The Golden Eagles would add one more touchdown in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.
FOR THE FOES
  • Germinerio finished 14 of 20 for 233 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He also had a rushing touchdown.
  • Zach Samborski led a Brockport ground attack that totaled 362 yards, finishing with 111 yards on 15 carries, including three touchdowns.
  • Hubbard finished with two catches for 120 yards and the score.
  • Four other Golden Eagles found the end zone.
  • Austin Dean led a dominant Brockport defense with five tackles, including three for loss with 2.5 sacks.  Lawrence Jenkins had six tackles and an interception.

Buffalo State will return home to host Morrisville State next Saturday at noon.
