Gerry residents arrested during menacing investigation

STAFF REPORTS

A 29-year-old Gerry man was charged with Resisting Arrest and a 37-year-old Gerry woman was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child on November 24, 2018 following the investigation of a menacing complaint.

According to New York State Troopers, officers responded to Heather Bentley’s address, as she was the registered owner of the vehicle involved in a menacing complaint in Jamestown involving a handgun. The owner of the residence stated that Bentley and Richard Catanese were inside the home and that Catanese had a warrant. The responding units confirmed that the warrant for Catanese was a bench warrant issued by Chautauqua County Court for drug court.

In the bedroom, the Troopers and Deputies observed Bentley with her child, and Catanese was located in the bedroom hiding behind furniture and boxes. Catanese physically resisted being placed under arrest but was eventually taken into custody and processed at SP Jamestown for Resisting Arrest. Catanese was then turned over to the Deputies and subsequently transported to the Chautauqua County Jail. Bentley was arrested for Endangering the Welfare of a Child for allowing a fugitive to hide in the residence in the presence of her minor child.

Bentley was processed at SP Jamestown and released with an appearance ticket, directing her to appear in the town of Gerry Court later in the month.
