Niagara women's basketball defeated by Little 3 rival St. Bonaventure


NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- The Purple Eagles women's basketball team fell to Little 3 rival St. Bonaventure, 76-48, in its season opener on Tuesday night.

Game Recap

  • The Purple Eagles trailed 21-7 at the end of the first quarter. Moore had all seven of Niagara's points.
  • With a little over seven minutes to play in the second quarter, Kharysma Bryant had a bucket to break a 16-0 Bonnies scoring run.
  • After a 7-0 run from St. Bonaventure, McIntyre scored two points to put the score at 36-15. The Purple Eagles trailed the Bonnies, 45-15, at the end of the second quarter.
  • Adila Gathers, Bryant and Moore each had four points in the third quarter, but NU still trailed the Bonnies, 59-29, at the end of the third.
  • McIntyre scored seven straight points in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 61-36.
  • The Purple Eagles picked up steam late in the game, including seven points from freshman Ally Haar, but NU could not overcome the Bonnies' lead, falling to St. Bonaventure, 76-48.

  • "What you saw in the second half, is the basketball you're going to see for the rest of the year," said head coach Jada Pierce. "Seeing how we still had energy throughout the whole game, you wouldn't have known if you walked in and didn't see what the score was, that we were down by 20 points."

  • Dagny Davidsdottir had a team-high seven rebounds. Bryant and Emerald Ekpiteta each added five rebounds.
