Purple Eagles turn in strong performances at Little Three Championship


OLEAN, N.Y. – The Niagara men's golf team turned in strong individual performances at the Little Three Championship on Tuesday.

In his collegiate debut, Ryan Sabo led the Purple Eagles, finishing tied for second place. He fired a 73 (+3) in the first round and a 72 (+2) in the second round for a total score of 145 (+5). Over 36 holes of play, Sabo birdied five holes and shot par on 22 holes.

Joseph Napoli had a career-best performance. He shot 74 (+4) in both rounds for a total score of 148 (+8) to finish tied for sixth place. Napoli birdied six holes and shot even par on 17 holes.

Eric MacLean shot a career-best 151 (+11) and birdied a team-high seven holes. He shot a 75 (+5) in round one and a 76 (+6) in the second round and finished tied for 12th place.

Tyler Edholm took 18th place. He carded a total score of 157 (+17) with an 81 (+11) in the first round and a 76 (+6) in the second round.

Zach Farkas carded an 83 (+13) in the first round and a 78 (+8) in the second round for a total score of 161 (+21). He finished in 23rd place.

Matt Pawlak finished in 25th place with a total score of 165 (+25). He shot an 85 (+15) in round one and and 80 (+10) in round two.

Lincoln Cizek and Mike Tomczak competed as individuals. Cizek finished tied for 19th place with a total score of 158 (+18). He was the only player in the tournament to eagle a hole. Tomczak finished the day with a score of 164 (+24) to finish in 24th place.

Niagara finished in third place overall with a total team score of 601 (+41).

The Purple Eagles compete next at the Matthew Auto Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Binghamton, Oct. 6-7.
