Canisius rowing opens spring schedule on Sunday

CHERRY HILL, N.J. -- The Canisius College rowing program opens the Spring campaign Sunday, April 8, as the Golden Griffins take part in the Cooper Invitational on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.

"After a long winter, and a challenging transition to the water, we are excited for race day," head coach Kerri Brace said. "The team has worked very hard this past week in Brigantine, New Jersey on our spring training trip, and we're looking forward to kicking off the spring racing season against a group of solid competitors."

Canisius' lineups have yet to be announced for the weekend.
The team was selected to finish third in the 2018 Preseason Coaches' Poll with 72 points and one first-place vote, as chosen by the league's 10 head coaches.

Jacksonville, the MAAC's defending champion, was picked to win the league's crown again with 93 points and six first-place votes. Marist was tabbed to finish second with 88 points and three first-place nods. Canisius was third, while Fairfield (71), Drake (64) and Robert Morris (48) took spots four through six. Sacred Heart (34) was picked seventh, followed by Stetson (30). Iona and Manhattan both received 25 points, rounding out the 10-team field.
This past fall, the Blue and Gold were only able to get in two of their four scheduled regattas due to weather cancellations.
Canisius hosts its lone home regatta, the Black Rock Cup, on Sunday, April 29 at the West Side Rowing Club in Buffalo, N.Y. That regatta kicks-off at 9 a.m.
The squad heads to back to New Jersey for the Knecht Cup, April 14-15. The regatta will be held on Mercer Lake in West Windsor Township, NJ, and will feature competition from over 70 schools across the country.
